Residential Design in Mildura: A New Family Home

A new home designed to fit a family, not a formula

Location: Mildura, VIC
Project type: New home

With their children growing up, the clients were at a crossroads: undertake a major renovation, or build something new that better reflected how they actually lived.

After reviewing bulk builder plans, they felt none truly suited their family. They wanted a home that felt personal and purposeful - even if that meant investing more - but were understandably nervous about cost and an unfamiliar process.

The architectural approach focused on restraint and specificity. The floor plan was kept compact to control costs, while internal spaces were carefully tailored to the clients’ real priorities.

Instead of a formal dining room, the home includes a games room where the family actually spends time together. Instead of a butler’s pantry, generous bookshelves reflect the clients’ love of reading. Every space earns its place.

The result is a home that fits the family “like a glove”, supporting their life now, and designed to adapt as their needs change over time.

Takeaway:
Better design is more valuable than more space for the sake of it.
