About Sunlight & Shelter
Sunlight & Shelter is an architecture and design practice focused on creating homes that feel considered, calm and genuinely suited to the people who live in them.
While much of our work happens early, when layout, flow and key decisions are being shaped, we also support clients through later stages of design and delivery, once the right foundation is already in place.
Our role is to bring clarity to the process, wherever you’re starting.
Our Approach
Good architecture isn’t rushed. It’s resolved.
We believe the most important decisions in a home are often the simplest ones: how spaces connect, how light moves through the house, and how the home can adapt over time.
By taking the time to understand your brief, your site and your priorities, we help create a clear plan that makes the rest of the process feel more deliberate and less overwhelming.
Often, this work involves modest, thoughtful changes rather than dramatic gestures, improving how a home works without overcomplicating it.
Who we work with
We work with people who:
don’t know where to start or how the process works
didn’t realise an architect would be interested in their project (we help people with projects and budgets of all shapes and sizes)
care about how their home functions day to day
want guidance without pressure
Many of our clients are navigating change: renovating, building, downsizing or reshaping a home to suit a new phase of life. We help them to navigate the process to achieve what’s best for them and their families.
What to expect
Working with Sunlight & Shelter is calm, collaborative and grounded.
You don’t need to have everything figured out. You just need a sense that your home could work better.
From there, we’ll help you create a clear, flexible foundation on which to build your new home or renovation, and support you through the next steps, as far as you choose to go.
About Brodie
Sunlight & Shelter is led by Brodie, a registered architect with experience across residential architecture in Victoria and New South Wales.
Brodie is deeply passionate about homes: how they’re planned, how they feel to live in, and how small, well-considered decisions can dramatically improve everyday life. His work focuses on renovations, new homes and projects within sensitive heritage or planning contexts, where clarity and restraint matter most.
Alongside his architectural practice, Brodie is the founder of Lunchbox Architect, a widely read platform dedicated to thoughtful residential design. Through this work, he has spent years analysing how homes succeed, how people actually use space, and where projects tend to go wrong. This perspective strongly informs his architectural approach.
Rather than chasing dramatic gestures, Brodie is interested in calm, intelligent design moves - often modest in scale, but carefully judged - that improve layout, flow, light and long-term usability.
Clients value his ability to listen closely, translate loose ideas into workable plans, and guide complex decisions in a way that feels measured, supportive and grounded.
